Playing with action toys and games is not all about shootouts and cowboys these days, modern times bring toys to match a quickly changing society and have the latest technology and realistic designs to give them more of a wow factor.
Marvel Heroes
Because play is an important part of a child’s development the best type of toys are those that encourage learning through physical play, role play and make-believe. Kids can use their imagination to create scenes from a movie or concoct their own storylines. They can set the scene using figures, playsets, toy armour, weapons and dress-up costumes. Outfits are available based on the most popular movie and TV characters such as Marvel Heroes, Wolverine, Bakugan Battle Brawlers, HM Armed Forces and Ben 10 Alien Force.
Ben Ten Toys
Active kids need toys that keep the action going and have extended play value rather than one-minute wonders that are soon forgotten. Parents have to be in tune with what’s hot, especially at Christmas time when they feel the pressure to find the best toy. There will be many top toy stores with their own lists out at this time including the 2009 Dream Toys from the Toy Association that may help but by this time everyone else will be looking to buy the same ones!
As far as a child is concerned it is not always the most talked-about toy that wins the day, parents will soon know they have chosen wisely by the amount of time centred on their choice and of course, a scream of delight as they open their present.
Power Rangers Figures
Although the idea of action toys tends to be associated with boys, girls too like to get involved especially with action board games where they can test their skills against the boys. The number one and number two boys brands Ben 10 and Power Rangers have a massive following with a growing collection of new toy releases.
Another one hitting the scenes big time has the power of magnetic attraction to draw the crowds. Battle Strikers is the latest craze among boys who can battle it out using the turbo launcher for maximum effect.
Transformer ACTION Toys and Figures
Action movies like GI Joe, Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen, Terminator Salvation, and the X-Men Prequel: Wolverine have inspired the release of movie and TV toys, vehicles and role-play toys to keep fans happy. The new super Wolverine Battle Claw has sound effects and includes retractable claws and then there are the amazing Bumblebee voice changer helmet, Bumblebee plasma cannon and brilliant Bumblebee printed jumpsuit that is a must for the Transformers fan club.
Keeping with Transformers toys there is now a range that includes characters from the recent Transformers series like Blurr, Waspinator, Jetfire and Jetstorm alongside classic robots from the animated show. The Deluxe figures are entry-level models while the Voyager line is a step up and has larger figures.
The ultimate fighting machine comes in the shape of Devastator which is made up of six deadly Decepticons and features electronic sounds and lights. Other large-scale Transformers like Megatron come with Mech Alive technology that reveals the inner workings of the machines.
Non-converting mini-vehicles of Transformers characters known as Robot Powered Machines (RPM) offer kids plenty of racing fun either from racing them across the floor, on playsets or on the specially designed track: the Transformers Movie Performance Track set.
Army Military Figures
New products from the HM Forces corner include vehicles and figures from all three forces as well as dress-up outfits and accessories. The uniform range has a pilot’s flight suit, an infantryman in desert combat and a marine with a green beret.
Among the HM Forces, military machines are the Vector Thrust Fast jet, Fast Pursuit Battle Tank and Hovercraft. There are an array of role-play accessories like a Utility Belt, Compass and Night Vision Infrared Stealth Goggles,
Speed and action go well together as far as the boys are concerned and the GX Racers Tightrope offers both, this new type of track means cars can perform the most amazing stunts at extreme speed.
The action is not only centred on Earth, but there are also aliens, monsters, and time travel and outer space adventures adding to the mix of action toys for boys. Old favourites like Star Wars have attracted a new audience, especially with the launch of the new Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. It has been ten years since Star Wars joined forces with Lego and there are now Clone Wars-based models adding to their already impressive lineup.
Lego Action Games
Lego Power Miners, Bionicle, Indiana Jones: the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and the Temple of Doom playset are all show-stoppers in the Lego camp. These sets are a great combination of action construction kits that offer high-tech features with firing ammunition.
Ben 10 is going from strength to strength with the new series Ben 10 Alien Force taking the story over five years; Ben 10 is now able to transform himself into a whole new lot of aliens with even more powers. Power Rangers is not new on the action scene and after 16 years still remains a firm favourite with boys. This year kids have enjoyed the release of the all-new Power Rangers Jungle Fury toy range: Transforming Beast Master Megazord, 12.5cm Sound Fury Figures, the Jungle Pride and Master DX Megazord poseable Figures and Solar Morpher.
Gormitti Toys
Battle Brawlers was given the 2009 Toy of the Year award by the Toy Industry Association so it comes as no surprise to see the Bakugan Battle Pack by Spin Master on the latest Dream Toys list for boys along with the amazingly successful Gormiti Toys and the Gormiti Guardian Creature.
Strategic battle plans can be drawn up ready for combat and with the aid of the Nerf Raider Rapid Fire CS-35, battle sets or maybe some Night Vision Goggles there is always plenty of action-packed fun on offer and if all else fails to win the day then maybe a little magic is needed instead.
